Secure warehouse documentation

The safe use of storage equipment is ensured by close cooperation between racking and loading equipment suppliers, customers and employees. It is necessary to strictly follow the relevant standards, manufacturer's instructions and recommendations.

Monitoring, ensuring proper conditions for installation and use of storage equipment, establishing procedures, and training employees are the responsibility of users.

The company must have established procedures that include:
a. equipment must be used according to specifications;
b. a person responsible for security must be appointed;
c. inspections must be carried out;
d. racks must be serviced;
e. harm reduction procedures must be in place.

If we were talking about large warehouses, where goods or raw materials are stored in pallets, even a relatively small damage to the rack structures can cause the racks to collapse. If one high rack module with heavy pallets collapses, the whole warehouse or at least a significant part of it can collapse. Not to mention the risk to workers' lives, huge distances can be experienced that will not be covered by the insurance company if the storage equipment has not been properly maintained. For the company's shareholders, this may mean challenges for the company's reputation, its future, and for the director - personal responsibility with all the consequences that await (both legal and financial).

More and more companies, even without any tragic event, begin to assess the risks they take and look for solutions to organize their storage facilities. In many cases, new investors and large customers also ask for evidence that all the warehouse management processes of the potential partner's company are carried out in accordance with the requirements.

If the warehouses have been in operation for a long time, just repairing the damage to the storage equipment can require a considerable investment, and this can be the reason why some companies postpone warehouse inspections until better times. In fact, even without fully understanding it, the managers of these companies personally take on unprecedented risks, because according to the Civil Code, it is the manager of the company who is personally responsible for all consequences. It's like driving drunk all the time and hoping you never get into an accident or get pulled over by the police.

How can we be useful?

We can provide you with the knowledge and help to organize your warehouse farm.

I. Based on LST EN 15635:2009 standard, which is a technical committee of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). CEN/TC 344 "Static steel storage systems" European standard EN 15635: 2008 national version, we have prepared extremely clear and abundantly illustrated instructions for the safe installation, use and maintenance of stationary, steel racks, which is valid for all manufacturers and all types of racks.

With the help of the instructions, you will learn how to implement a safe warehouse system in the company, which would prevent or at least limit the occurrence of dangerous situations. You will learn how violations should be assessed and what actions to take when they occur, how to analyze the causes of violations and prevent their recurrence.

If you are just planning to install warehouses, the instructions will help you install them correctly, you will know what you should demand from the storage equipment supplier or installers to reduce possible risks in the future.

EN 15635: 2008 instruction prepared on the basis of the standard - the foundations of a safe warehouse.

II. With the help of the instructions, after installing the safe warehouse system in the company, it is possible to proceed to the analysis of the installed storage equipment. Based on the warehouse project and the technical information provided by the manufacturers, it is necessary to accurately identify the equipment installed in the warehouse, the permitted loads and limitations. If racks from well-known manufacturers are used, there is an authorized representative of the manufacturer in the country who can provide all the necessary information, this is not difficult to do. It is much more complicated when the manufacturer of the installed racks is not clear, it is no longer in operation, and there is no way to get accurate technical information about the installed equipment. At this stage, we can also help by collecting all the necessary information and preparing clear informational instructions for the workers working with the storage equipment.

III. Having complete information about the installed storage equipment, it is possible to proceed to its inspection, which will allow to determine the level of possible damage, whether the racks are properly operated, comply with the project, whether employees are properly informed about the loads and limitations of the installed storage racks.

IV. Critical violations detected during the inspection must be removed immediately.

By correcting all violations, having a functioning safe warehouse system in the company, and everyone involved knowing what to do when a new violation occurs, the probability of accidents in the warehouse is reduced to a minimum.
